Podcast: Gold Class Cinema First Impressions

Photos from Gold Class CinemasA Gold Class Cinema luxury movie theater opened in Austin recently and I was lucky enough to attend an event sponsored by Thrillist. In this podcast I give a quick overview of my initial experience with Gold Class and share some thoughts on when you might want to pay $22 for a movie ticket.

  1. Very interesting, Natanya.

I love Alamo Drafthouse and it is the only place that I will go to see movies. I refuse to go to other cinemas if I can’t combine two of my favorite pastimes – eating great food and watching movies with friends. I’d wondered about this theatre and if it was worth the cost.

You helped to explain why I may opt to visit Gold Class Cinema sometime soon for a special movie treat with my ladies – perhaps for Sex and the City…

    Thank you for sharing.

    Warmly,

  2. LOVE Gold Class Cinema. Went there last Friday night for a birthday party and thought it was great. I had the artichoke, spinach gruyere fritters and the blue cheese potato chips which were all delicious. My favorite part was that they offered me a fleece blanket!

  3. Excellent podcast, Natanya. I’ve been eyeing this theater for a few weeks now and will be finally going tonight for Iron Man 2. Without even going, I agree that this would be a “special occasion” choice, like Imax. Whereas good old Alamo I would go to see any movie on any day.

Have you checked out Studio Movie Grill yet? There’s one in Dallas that I went a bunch of times last year when work brought me up there a lot. It’s higher-end classy aura with the bar and more serious menu like Gold Class but not with the reserved seats at $22. http://www.studiomoviegrill.com/

Anyway, keep up the great work – Austin is better off for your labors of culinary love.

  4. Best podcast yet, Natanya. Thanks for sharing your experience. I would LOVE to spend some time at Gold Class but honestly don’t think it would be worth the money. For example, if I go for SATC 2, I’ll opt for a meal, champagne, maybe a specialty cocktail….and it sounds like that will set me back close to $75 at least. Maybe they will do a food blogger event and if so, I’ll definitely happily attend!
